Three years ago saw the start of an amazing period of change in Southend. With a new Chief Executive, we began carrying out one of the most significant restructures seen in local government. Our aim? To achieve a programme of positive cultural change that would, in turn, deliver a substantial improvement in performance across the council and local area.

It was a move that was radical, innovative and inventive. Most important of all, it was highly effective. The Audit Commission has just judged the Council as a three star authority, improving well and there has been a massive improvement in staff satisfaction and engagement. Our next goal is to bring about a step change in the quality of services to residents that will see us make rapid progress on our journey towards excellence. And that’s where you come in.

We want you to bring your technical and management skills to continue our drive upward and onward, shaping a clean environment, a strong economic future and an environmentally sustainable community. And, of course, we'd like you to bring all the fresh thinking and groundbreaking ideas you've been itching to put into practice.
