Group Manager – Development Control & Building Control

£47,000 to £53,000 (pay award pending)

We're wide open to new ideas and fresh thinking at Southend Council. This is local government as you've never seen it before - and there are no limits to what you can achieve here.

The Thames Gateway has already begun to transform the area. Now you'll play a key part in reshaping Southend itself and unlocking its considerable potential as a regional centre. It's a big challenge. Leading a team of 34, you'll control a budget of around £2 million. But it's a big opportunity too, with scope to make a major impact on both the town and your CV. Key responsibilities will include shaping corporate development policies, taking a lead on service delivery, developing effective relationships with partner agencies and promoting the Council's regeneration initiatives.

Your degree in Planning/Building Surveying (or equivalent) should be backed up by a management qualification and full membership of RTPI or RICS. Strong planning knowledge is a must, together with commercial acumen. Your background could be within either the private or public sector, but in either case you should have a good grasp of how local government operates.
